How to create modern electronic music

Electronic music is a relatively new genre, which, however, is becoming more and more popular every day. The very first electronic music appeared back in the early 30s, when Lev Theremin, I want to note our compatriot, invented the first “synthesizer” – theremin.

But in the modern sense, electronic music appeared much later – around the 70s of the 20th century. It was then that several such basic styles as Trance, House, etc. appeared, which still remain one of the most popular.

Electronic music has constantly improved and become more complex as new instruments and musical ideas emerged.

Well, it’s time to go to the main thing, namely to how, nevertheless, a modern melodic and breathtaking Trance is created and always tearing the House dance floor.

As we already understood, the synthesizer is an important thing in this process, it is on it that the very beautiful sounds are produced that can resemble in character both stringed instruments and wind instruments, both angry and growling basses, and soothing atmospheric pads.

Previously, musicians working in this style spent a lot of money on physical analog synthesizers and they scored all the free space in the studio. Probably, many of you have seen the huge analog synthesizers of those years with a lot of “knobs” and toggle switches necessary to get the right timbre.

But now the 21st century is already in the courtyard, and all this is no longer necessary; all of these devices are now more than replaced by a regular desktop computer or even a laptop. This is exactly what modern electronic engineers work like. The bulky and expensive analogue was replaced by cheaper software synthesizers – VSTi, which are in no way inferior in quality to the received sound to their analogue counterparts.

For percussion and drum parts, samples are used, that is, ready-made sounds that are on sale. The whole composition is composed and combined in a special program called DAW. DAW is actually a whole studio on a computer.

Of course, creating electronic music on a computer is not such a simple process as it might seem. At a minimum, you need to have a good ear for music, to be able to play at least one musical instrument, well, knowledge in the field of sound synthesis will be necessary.

Few are able to make a truly high-quality arrangement with a professional sound, but learning all this is possible today. At the moment, there are articles and video tutorials on creating music that clearly show the process of creating and arranging. As the saying goes, talent is only ten percent of success, the remaining 90 is hard work.
