Guitar Lessons FAQ
How long are lessons?
We recommend half hour lessons for younger, beginning musicians. Beginning adults should start with half hour lessons then consider moving to hour lessons. Intermediate and advanced musicians may require an hour.
How often do lessons take place?
Lessons take place on a weekly basis at a regularly scheduled time. We understand that schedules can be hectic, but a consistent time and structure is necessary for optimal results. Our teachers are very busy and in high demand. Students who pay by the month, reserve their preferred time-slot & teacher.
Can we do a trial lesson to make sure we like our teacher?
Definitely! That is what our Free Music Lesson is all about. It allows you the opportunity to evaluate whether or not you really want to proceed with music lessons. You’ll discover whether or not the chemistry is right between you and the teacher. We have nearly a 100% success rate in placing students with teachers: Our teachers are the best! However, if you are not completely satisfied with your 1st lesson, we will give you the opportunity to try another teacher.
What instruments do you teach?
At Grand River Music we only teach what we can teach well. Our teachers have a unique talent for both playing and teaching their instruments. If we are unable to find teachers that meet our criteria we will forgo including that instrument in our overall lessons program. That being said, we currently teach: Acoustic Guitar, Electric Guitar, Bass, Banjo, Mandolin, Music Reading, Music Theory & Songwriting. Our teachers in these categories are the very best.
I have an old guitar that needs work before it can be played, can you help?
One of the extra benefits of our lessons program is free instrument maintenance. Most guitars need adjustment from time to time, this is called a setup. Setups are free to our monthly enrolled students. We typically charge $25 - $35 for this service.
How long will it be before I can play a song?
We promise that if you practice the material we provide for a minimum 20-30 minutes a day, you will see weekly progress. The key is consistency. Practice every day and you’ll be playing songs sooner than you think!
Do you have recitals?
Recitals?......really? Definitely not! But we do have our twice a year String Fling! String Flings allow students to show off their stuff in front of siblings, parents, grandparents, friends and the whole GRM community. Performing in front of others is also a necessary part of your musical education. Our String Flings aren't just boring old fashioned recitals though; we encourage students to perform together, in groups, duos, trios, bands, with siblings, parents, their teachers, etc.
What if we need to miss a lesson?
We have a 24 hr cancellation policy. All cancellations must be called or emailed into your teacher 24 hours prior to the start time of your lesson. However, we are flexible and understanding. If necessary, your teacher will do their absolute best to reschedule.
How do we pay?
For customers who pay by the month (our most economical option) payment is expected before the first lesson of the next month. Most customers pay on their last lesson of the month. Please remember, our bills come every month just like everyone else – this is how we get paid!
Does Grand River Music accept credit cards?
Yes, we accept all major credit/debit cards, checks and of course cash.
